Majuli: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has endorsed for development of a significant extension over waterway Brahmaputra to interface the world's biggest occupied stream island Majuli in Assam adding up to Rs 925 crore.
The work has been granted to M/s UP State Bridge Corporation Ltd. The length of the scaffold will be 8 km. The venture is assessed to be finished inside four years.
The understanding was endorsed on Monday by MoRTH CE (Zone V) UC Katara and UP State Bridge Construction Corporation Joint MD Ashish Srivastava within the sight of MoRTH ADG SK Nirmal.
The extension will give network among Jorhat and Aphalamukh ghat of Majuli. At this point, individuals living here depend on stream ships for transportation.Assam Ex Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal invited the drive of the Central government. "The development of one of the main extensions over the Brahmaputra interfacing Jorhat to the hallowed stream island Majuli is an extraordinary infra project for New India," said Ex Chief Minister Sonowal.
The Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had before declared that the development of the Jorhat-Majuli extension would begin by February 20.
The establishment stone of the extension was laid by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in 2016.
The fifteenth Finance Commission, headed by N K Singh, suggested the development of streets and dikes in Majuli. For that reason, the Commission conceded Rs 1,095 crore for Majuli. The commission likewise suggested ₹300 crore for the improvement of the Kamakhya sanctuary complex.
After the Jorhat Majuli Ferry Accident the Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday, September 9 2021, said that the development of the scaffold associating Jorhat to Majuli will start from November this year.
Addressing mediapersons in Jorhat, Sarma said that work on the proposed span is progressing. "We have permitted an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract, and the project workers have as of now presented the plan of the scaffold to the Government of India. I have addressed the concerned specialists and when the plan is supported by the Government, development work will begin from November 2021," the CM said.
He additionally added that it would require no less than 4 years to finish the development of the extension. The Government will shape a Cabinet Committee to routinely oversee the development work of the scaffold during this period.
Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi established the framework stone of the bridge between Nimatighat (Jorhat) to Aphalamukhghat (Majuli) in February 2021. The assessed cost of the extension is Rs 925.47 crores and the work has been granted to the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation.
The absolute length of the two-path extension will be 6.8 km. According to the necessity of the Inland Waterways Authority of India, 40 traverses 125 meters in length (five km) street with a 10 meter vertical freedom over high flood level will be given to work with water transport.
