According to mythology, on the tenth day, Goddess Durga killed a demon named Mahishasura. According to Mahabharata or some other stories, worshiping weapons on this day gives victory in the war. The Pandavas worshiped a tree named Shami and their weapons on this day. Mainly on the day of Dussehra in North India, Ganga bath and the sighting of Neelkand bird are also considered very auspicious. In many areas, the practice of eating betel leaves on the day of Dussehra is also seen.
